When choosing a Spindle mattress there are three factors to consider. Follow the guidelines below to help you find the right mattress for you.
You need to know if you like a hard or soft mattress. If you don’t know or don’t care, skip this one. But, if you sleep on a firm mattress and like it, get a firm mattress. Your body can become accustomed to anything. Look at the Paleo Movement (a fancy way of saying that you act/live like a cavemen), they sleep on the ground and like it!
BMI — Body Mass Index
If you don’t already know it, calculate your BMI. Use the guidelines below for a general rule of thumb, kind of like what size jeans to buy: too baggy or too tight mean you won’t be comfortable. Buy the mattress that’s best for your size.
BMI below 19 — SOFT
BMI between 19 and 25 — MEDIUM
BMI between 26 and 31 — FIRM
BMI over 31 — Unfortunately, we do not make a mattress that’s appropriate for you at this time. Give us a call or send us an email and we’ll be happy to give you some recommendations. Our favorite is the Archetype – Organic Innerspring from WJ Southard.
The way that you sleep should be used in conjunction with your BMI to find the correct firmness. Keep in mind too that most everyone changes positions all during the night. You may go to sleep on your side and wake up on your stomach, or start on your back and wake up on your side, or…truth is: we mainly only feel the experience of our mattress for the five minutes before we fall asleep and the five minutes while we’re waking up.

Medium Ideal for side sleepers and back sleepers
Firm Good for side sleepers, back sleepers or stomach sleepers
