Our Unscientific Firmness Scale

Our hybrid delivers a balanced firmness of comfort and support. It’s a good option for most side and combination sleepers.

After many iterations, we feel that our hyrbid is the ideal medium feel for most.

*Firmness scale was created by Spindle based on the subjective opinions of Spindle. Keep in mind that firmness is subjective and based on their height, weight, body shape, and sleep position, people will experience different feels on the same mattress.

Find out our sources of happiness.

Each Spindle hybrid is made from certified organic materials. We source only the finest ingredients from all over the world and construct each mattress in the USA.

  • Latex Firmness ILD
    Density [kg/m3] Density [lbs/ft3]
    Medium 26 - 29 75 4.68
    Firm 34 - 37 85 5.31
Many people try to use Indentation Load Deflection, commonly known as ILD, as a metric when trying to decide which mattress to buy. We are happy to share our ILD data with you, but we also caution you not to base your decision on that number alone. ILD is only accurate when comparing the same type of latex from the same latex manufacturer. We know it would be easier if there was one unified number, but feel is ultimately subjective and based on more than a single input test like ILD. So, please use caution when basing a decision on these numbers.

The farms in Sri Lanka that harvest the milky white sap, known as latex, operate under the USDA's National Organic Program. [Certificate No: C813274NOP-01.2018 | USDA Registration No: CU 813274]

We use 100% GOLS certified Dunlop latex in our mattress. [Certificate No: C813274GOLS-02.2018 | GOLS Registration No: CU 813274]. It's made with ≥95% certified organic latex, the highest possible standard. We do not use blended or synthetic latex and there are no seams and no chemical adhesives are used to bind the layers.

Plus, our GOLS organic certified latex has received STANDARD 100 by OEKO-TEX®: Class 1 [Certificate No: 11-26160].

As an extra bonus, our latex is even manufactured in Carbon Neutral facility resulting in zero net release of carbon dioxide into the atmosphere as a result of carbon reduction programs and targeted carbon offsetting. [Certificate No: C813274EU-01.2018 | Registration No: CU 813274]

At Spindle, we add a layer of pure, “100%” GOTS organic certified wool (1 ounce per square foot) under the certified organic cotton ticking in every mattress. We do not blend any rayon, polyester or flame retardant chemicals with our wool -- no additives or synthetics are added to the wool. Our organic wool is GOTS certified. [GOTS Registration #Z-52059-2008] As well as the STANDARD 100 by OEKO-TEX®: Class 1 certification. [Okeo-Tex: 16.HUS.92223]

For a luxurious and premium finish, we use 100% GOTS organic certified cotton. [GOTS Registration: ONE-3312] We craft the top panel with 100% stretch organic cotton, in a soft natural color with no polyester fiber is used. Responsibly and ethically sourced from India, this is soft yet durable textile.
