Fixing a broken zipper.
We get reports like this from time to time and, in nearly all cases, the zipper is not broken. Instead, the pin of the zipper needs to be seated properly into the box when you begin to attach the top.
When the pin is not seated properly you'll run the zipper 360° around the mattress, only to see the zipper disengage, and the tab come right off the end. If this is the situation, there is an easy fix. If this is not the case, please send us photos illustrating your particular issue.
To start, familiarize yourself with the parts of a zipper.
ZIPPING UP — TAKE YOUR TIME
- Take the mattress cover top and spread it over the latex as if you were putting a quilt on a bed.
- The zipper tab, retainer box, and insertion pin should be at the same end of the mattress.
- Attaching the top of your Spindle is straight forward. Just like any other zipper. Even so, please take your time. Be sure the zipper’s “box pin” is fully inserted into its “retainer box”
- Next, slowly zip the cover together. Gently tuck the skirt and compress the latex as you go so you do not snag the zipper.
THE ZIPPER IS NOT BROKEN — START AGAIN
The zipper is coming apart. When you start zipping, check to be sure the Pin is settled securely into the Retainer Box. If it isn't, the zipper will separate when you get to the end and appear to be broken.
The tab fell off. If the box pin is not fully inserted into the retainer box, the zipper’s teeth will separate. The zipper is not broken. It is not a defect and is a simple fix.
- Look at the end of the zipper on the top of the mattress. Notice how it trails off and does not have a “stop".
- Feed the squared-off edge of the slider body onto the zipper.
- Lead it all the way around your mattress, clockwise.
- When you reach the end [the beginning?] you'll be smack up against the retainer box.
- This time be doubly sure the pin is inserted securely into the box.
- Begin to zip the top of the mattress onto the bucket.
- Check to be sure the pin has held.
- Finish zipping the mattress together.
